چکیده

We report on neon abundances derived from Spitzer high resolution spectral data of eight Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars using the forbidden line of [Ne III] 15.56 microns. Our targets include four WN stars of subtypes 4–7, and four WC stars of subtypes 4–7. We derive ion fraction abundances γ of Ne for the winds of each star. The ion fraction abundance is a product of the ionization fraction Qi in stage i and the abundance by number AE of element E relative to all nuclei. Values generally consistent with solar are obtained for the WN stars, and values in excess of solar are obtained for the WC stars. Subject headings: stars: abundances — stars: mass-loss — stars: winds — stars: Wolf-Rayet

The Neon Abundance of Galactic Wolf–rayet Stars

The fast, dense winds which characterize Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars obscure their underlying cores, and complicate the verification of evolving core and nucleosynthesis models. Core evolution can be probed by measuring abundances of wind-borne nuclear processed elements, partially overcoming this limitation. Using ground-based mid-infrared spectroscopy and the 12.81μm [Ne ii] emission line measured ...

Cosmic-ray Neon, Wolf-rayet Stars, and the Superbubble Origin of Galactic Cosmic Rays

We report the abundances of neon isotopes in the Galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) using data from the Cosmic Ray Isotope Spectrometer (CRIS) aboard the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE ). These abundances have been measured for seven energy intervals over the energy range of 84 E /M 273MeV nucleon .We have derived the Ne/Ne ratio at the cosmic-ray source using the measured Ne, F, and O abundances ...

Superbubbles, Wolf-Rayet stars, and the origin of galactic cosmic rays

The abundances of neon and several other isotopic ratios in the galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) have been measured using data from the Cosmic Ray Isotope Spectrometer (CRIS) aboard the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE). We have derived the Ne/Ne ratio at the cosmic-ray source using the measured Ne, F, and O abundances as “tracers” of secondary isotope production. Using this approach, the Ne/Ne ab...

Irs Observations of Lmc Planetary Nebula Smp 83

The first observations of the infrared spectrum of the LMC planetary nebula SMP 83 as observed by the recently launched Spitzer Space Telescope are presented. The high resolution (R ∼ 600) spectrum shows strong emission lines but no significant continuum. The infrared fine structure lines are used, together with published optical spectra, to derive the electron temperature of the ionized gas fo...

GCR Neon Isotopic Abundances: Comparison with Wolf-Rayet Star Models and Meteoritic Abundances

Measurements of the neon isotopic abundances from the ACE-CRIS experiment are presented. These abundances have been obtained in seven energy intervals over the energy range of ~80<E<280 MeV/nucleon. The Ne/Ne source ratio is derived using the measured Ne/Ne abundance as a "tracer" of secondary production of the neon isotopes. We find that the Ne/Ne abundance ratio at the cosmic-ray source is a ...
